#Microsoft – List of almost all #Insider Programs (the ones I know …)

Hello!

I will write this down here since I always forget something and at the end I started to work with inconsistent versions of environments and apps. It’s been a while since Microsoft began allowing users to be part of “XYZ Insider programs”.

Insiders programs are focused to Early Adopters and offered the opportunity to test development versions of complete suites of products, apps and operating systems.

As you can expect, the versions that you can try are not 100% stable and they maybe have some serious errors inside. And since I speak of stability, an interesting detail of these programs is that they usually tend to have 2 types of updates

  • Fast Insider Ring. Where can we find the more frequents builds and with little or no “testing” at all on them.
  • Slow Insider Ring. This ring of deployment are published “more stable” although less frequently.

We can see an example of this in Windows 10 settings. When we are part of the Insider program you can select the Insider level.

Alternatively, you can manually select the build that you want to install, as for example in the case of Office. Depending on the type of installation, we will have updates in Fast or Slow mode.

As well, and before that you forget me, here is the list of programs Microsoft Insiders that I know. About what I know and use will leave 2 lines, others only are that there are:

  • Slow Insider Ring, o anillo lento.

#CognitiveServices – #Bing Web Search API, review feature and #Azure sample code

Hi !

Today’s post is still on the Cognitive Services new features, and today is for the main Bing feature: Search. Let’s start with the official description from the documentation

The Bing Web Search API provides a similar (but not exact) experience to Bing.com/Search (overview on MSDN). The Bing Web Search API lets partners send a search query to Bing and get back a list of relevant search results. This includes webpages and may include images, videos, and more.

The API is so cool, there are some basic search criteria like query and count, and you can also add additional filters like searchSafe of location (mkt). So, like yesterday I created a client library with the sample console app.

The search results includes response urls, last date of search, and other interesting information like “related images”. The next animation performs a search with my name and open the images thumbnails in a browsers

You can download and use the sample from the GitHub source Code.

#CognitiveServices–#Bing Autosuggest API, cool new feature and some sample code

Hi !

After my yesterday post on how to get the new Cognitive Services API keys, today I’ll review one of the new services: Bing Autosuggest API. So as the main documentation explains:

The Bing Autosuggest API lets partners send a partial search query to Bing and get back a list of suggested queries that other users have searched on. In addition to including searches that other users have made, the list may include suggestions based on user intent. For example, if the query string is “weather in Lo“, the list will include relevant weather suggestions.

As today, there is no samples or client library in the official SDK, so I decided to create one of my own for this. In my samples repository, you’ll find a 2 projects solution which includes a sample console app and the Client library to work with the Bing Autosuggest API.

image

The AutosuggestClient class is the one who performs the calls to the API and also transforms the JSON result into .Net classes. Cool experience here, I found a nice website: http://json2csharp.com/ which basically generates the necessary .Net clases from a JSON response.

So with this, I generate my contract classes and my AutoSuggest library becomes a little more friendly.

image

Finally the ServiceClient class, is based on the Microsoft.ProjectOxford.Common.ServiceClient class and uses some basic HttpClient code to perform the request to the Bing API.

image

Now in Toronto, my sample and test search criteria will change a little, in example make a search for “toronto rap” will return results like “toronto raptors”, “toronto raptors schedule”, and more.

[#VS2013] Some build errors, #Bing Developer Assistant and how you can probably skip a couple of steps ;)

Hello!

Bing Developer Assistant is so cool. Some time ago I already wrote about it, specially for scenarios where the addin could help us while we in “code mode”.

Today I see that when a build fails, we also get some support in the error list panel.

error 01

the way it works is simple, you select the option “Contextual Search Bing” and bing launches a background process with a search which creates an HTML file with the result of the search. The AddIn opens this with the default browser. As the error I used is kind of weird, so instead I used a most common error

A namespace cannot directly contain members such as fields or methods

Maybe we’ll see some more interesting results. With some StackOverflow results of course

error 02

So that’s cool.

Going back to the first error, I will dedicate a post to this one (a long one), just comment that is related to XAML, Blend, Visual Studio, and someone with sticky fingers :S

Child node “2” exited prematurely. Shutting down. Diagnostic information may be found in files in the temporary files directory named MSBuild_*.failure. txt.

A namespace cannot directly contain members such as fields or methods

Child node “2” exited prematurely. Shutting down. Diagnostic information may be found in files in the temporary files directory named MSBuild_*.failure.txt.
