Hello!
I will share with you a strange scenario with Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Visual Studio 2012 and 2013 de Visual Studio.
In general, most development tools have backwards compatibility, That’s why I assume that it is possible to use VS2013 to create Windows 8 apps, but you can not create apps Windows 8 with Visual Studio 2013 .
These are the options that you have for the creation of a Windows Store app in VS2013,
Once you create the app, there is no way to change the platform target:
Now, with VS2013 you can edit Windows 8 apps and projects created for Win8 with VS2012 and work with them. First time, you’ll, see a suggestion to upgrade to Windows 8.1, just ignore this, because you still building for Windows 8.
So that’s what I know until today, I do not know if there is any workaround .
I have tried to avoid installing VS2012, since I have the VS2013 and thought that it was enough. At the beginning I ask to a colleague to create blank project and then I edited with VS2013. And I get to a point where I decided to use Bing Maps. Here it gets very interesting.
There are 2 versions of Bing Maps for Windows Store apps
- Windows 8.1 and Visual Studio 2013: Use Bing Maps SDK for Windows Store apps (Windows 8.1) see and Create a Windows Store app (for Windows 8.1).
- Windows 8 and Visual Studio 2012: Use Bing Maps SDK for Windows Store apps for Windows 8 see and Create a Windows Store app (for Windows 8).
If you want to work with Visual Studio 2013 in Windows 8 apps with Bing Maps, since you will have to install the 2nd option; but of course the Installer requires VISUAL STUDIO 2012; so I have not been another option to install Visual Studio 2012 .
The conclusion which I have reached today is that I need to develop apps for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
- Windows 8.1
- Visual Studio 2012
- Visual Studio 2013
Note: install VS2012 is not much problem, a couple of lost GBs on the disk and also the time of installation that is not negligible; especially when installing the update 3.
