Hi,

If when you are working with Team Foundation Server 2010 options that offer you to validate a file are

  • CheckOut File And AutoMerge
  • Override Local File or Folder

because you’re a little stone. In the first case, desprotegerá the local file and run the worst invention that was distributed with Visual Studio > AUTOMERGE!

In the second case, because you lose local changes and you directly bring the version of the server.

The question is

How can I have reached this State?

I suppose that there are several options, but the most common is that you’ve eliminated the ReadOnly attribute of the local file, and then you have complicated the poor Workspace which defines the State of your local files for Team Foundation Server.

In the picture above you can see, the detail about the reasons for this action and it is quite clear > This is one of the worst defects of Team Foundation Server. How to work using the ReadOnly property of the files is something that Microsoft comes from Visual Source Safe and will not be until Team Foundation 11 will change this working model.

So you know, if you work with TFS, then not work from the File System as if nothing Risa
