[#KINECT] Error: After a few minutes my Kinect sensor is disconnected for the PC

image

Buenas,

a while ago the friend Omar asked me 5 minutes to ask me a question.Of course, in those moments I start to tremble, the questions of Omar, JuanLu, Roberto, etc. are that on one hand leave you thinking with the nose pointing to the South and also play me pride to provide light for the answer.

As well, Omar told me that they had an application in production with Kinect (1st fright) that had a strange behavior: after a few minutes of inactivity the sensor is disconnecting. Fans of conspiracy theories will probably point to Kinect SDK error, or a problem with the drivers of Windows 8 in ARM (even though it is out of context); but my instinct led me to suggest to Omar: and saving energy that disables the USB ports will not mode?

And was that!!! Accessing Windows power options

image

Then advanced options, select the section of “USB Settings“, the option “USB selective suspend setting” and disable this option:

image

Ready, was not problem of Kinect SDK, drivers, or anything… just a little of our beloved Windows.

(which by the way is now friend software, Microsoft Surface RT priced at $499 or $599 with Touch Cover keyboard http://www.theverge.com/2012/10/16/3271243/microsoft-surface-tablet-pricing-availability ))

[#TOOLS] HowTo: Share the desktop without #LYNC, #SKYPE, etc.

image

Buenas,

sharing the desktop tools there are many. In Avanade use LYNC and clear, when are you talking about with someone with two clicks you can share your desktop in various ways. Your primary monitor, secondary, both, etc.

image

If the conversation is with someone from outside, because I personally prefer SKYPE. Again with two clicks you can share your desktop very easily.

image

Some will be thinking, ‘he proposes all Microsoft products‘. Because if LYNC is very well and on SKYPE I am not going to speak since, although bought it MS a while ago, it is still one of the best platforms for IM that there is.

, And what happens when your partner is a 13 year old boy who does not want to create a Skype account and what is obviously not on the corporate network of ? Avanade do ?; there are several options. In this case, chat or video call is usually through Facebook (obviously!), and to share the desktop you have to use something very simple.

I for some time I use Join.me a service that in free format allow 4 people to connect to a Shared Desktop session. The interesting thing is that once installed, when you share the Desktop, you do so through a link, and can share control, choose the monitor to share, etc. We go to that specific cases gives you one possibility to take into account… Guiño.

[#WINDOWS8] Using #BingMaps in Windows 8 and how to survive … ;)

image

Buenas,

If you haven’t tried the SDK for Bing Maps Windows 8 , probably in versions Beta you will have touched explain to your boss why you must install Visual Studio 2012 so running maps. Now, since a few days ago has left the SDK RTM version, because one of the news was that it was no longer necessary to have Visual Studio 2012 to make the maps work.

Now when I think the first packet of an application for Windows 8 , I see that the problem remains. And of course, but when you get when you read The aid official of MSDN, leaves you worse because doesn’t help and above suggests you that you install Visual Studio 2012 if something doesn’t work.

But hey, after awhile and look pretty for the solution is very simple

  • Add the reference of C++ redistributable on your project of Windows 8
  • Create a deployment package in RELEASE (never in DEBUG, never in DEBUG!)

[#KINECTSDK] Kinect SDK 1.6 released!

image

Buenas,

Although the release of version 1.6 of the Kinect SDK it was 2 days ago, I posted it because I have to recompile applications starting tomorrow.

The official post and download below, the most important thing from my point of view is:

  • Ability to detect the orientation of the sensor
  • Ability to regulate aspects of the camera as brightness, exposure, etc.
  • Ability to work only with infrared reader (to make spy cameras!)
  • Support for working with multiple sensors Kinect in the same space
  • Support for the detection of a single skeleton with various sensors in the same space
  • Support for Windows 8
  • Support for Visual Studio 2012
  • Support to be able to work in a tested virtual machine in Hyper-V, VMWare, and Parallels (and VirtualBox?)

[#TFS] Team Foundation Server Word AddIn released!

image

Buenas,

great news to close the week. If you’re like me, and the issue of the documentation it hurts in the marrow of the bones, because the AddIn for Word that freed the Rangers ALM, you can relieve the day. The operation is very simple, is based on two premises:

-generate a word from WorkItem Tracking information document in Team Foundation Server

-Edit the templates for generating documents

Impressive! And for stock, a chicken Risa.

We have a new tab on the Ribbon for the selection of the WIQ from where the WorkItems will be removed

image

And the template editor which is also the most useful.

[#VS2012] Feedback Tool: Help to improve Visual Studio 2012

image

Buenas,

in a few days we’ll make no official launch of Visual Studio 2012 with the friends of MadridDotNet .Meanwhile I present to “Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Feedback Tool“, an extension to the IDE that allows us to report errors or suggestions to the product of Visual Studio Team

Once installed, we can access it from the HELP menu > Report a Bug

image

And the wizard will appear

image

Then we identify with our Microsoft Account

image

And at this point we can create a bug in public or private mode; or even add information to an already created item

image

We completed a couple of data type for feedback, and we attach a screenshots, a recording with error or a file, to give more details on the matter.

image

The idea behind this, is that 100000 developers in the world are more powerful than any testing team, and even though the IDE passes many tests before releasing it, the community of Visual Studio developers can improve this based on real cases.

[#VS2012] Setup in Visual Studio 2012? WiX is here!

image

Buenas,

I mentioned already a couple of months ago: we will not have more project setup in Visual Studio 2012 . Luckily the team pushing WiX has decided not to let it die and they are already on version 3.6. In this post you can see the new features that are included, but the best is that it is 100% compatible with VS2012.

[#GADGETS] HowTo: Integrate the USB Email Notifier to display the states of Lync 2013 Beta (III)

image

Buenas,

today close series where I discuss how using C# can check the status of the lights of a USB Email Notifier little more than U$ S 8.00.

First real example which was to build an application showing the alerts for a Server Builds with Team Foundation Server 2012. As once long ago already built something similar with the Lance missiles USB and Team Foundation Server 2008, because today I will do something different.

Some time ago I caught my attention this post by Scott Hanselman , which says it has been aBusyLight on the door of his Office so your family will know if you are in a call, Conference, etc. In addition to feel quite identified with your situation, it struck me that nobody has created a “cheap” solution for this. Well, here is some u $S 20 and with the satisfaction of having done self.

The only thing we need is a notifier light and a couple of USB extensions, for example

The following is to create a WPF application where use of Lync presence controls. In this case I’m using LYNC 2013 BETA, so I had to also download the SDK in Beta mode from here. The good thing about this SDK, is that in addition to the classical object model, we also have a set of WPF controls that allow us to create an application like that we can see the next image in a few minutes:

image

The WPF code

   1: <Window x:Class="ElBruno.LyncLightNotifier.MainWindow"
   2:         xmlns:controls="clr-namespace:Microsoft.Lync.Controls;assembly=Microsoft.Lync.Controls"
   3:         xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"
   4:         xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"
   5:         Title="El Bruno - LYNC 2013 Light Alert"
   6:         Height="264"
   7:         Width="405">
   8:     <Grid>
   9:         <Grid.RowDefinitions>
  10:             <RowDefinition />
  11:             <RowDefinition />
  12:         </Grid.RowDefinitions>
  13:         <Grid.ColumnDefinitions>
  14:             <ColumnDefinition Width="187*" />
  15:             <ColumnDefinition Width="384*" />
  16:         </Grid.ColumnDefinitions>
  17:         <Grid.Background>
  18:             <ImageBrush ImageSource="Lync.png" />
  19:         </Grid.Background>
  20:         <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical"
  21:                     Margin="10,0,0,10"
  22:                     HorizontalAlignment="Stretch"
  23:                     VerticalAlignment="Center"
  24:                     Height="106"
  25:                     Grid.Column="1"
  26:                     Grid.Row="1">
  27:             <controls:MyPresenceChooser x:Name="myPresence"
  28:                                         HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" />
  29:             <controls:MyStatusArea x:Name="myStatus" />
  30:         </StackPanel>
  31:     </Grid>
  32: </Window>

Now as I have not invested much time in seeing how the SDK, in the first 10 minutes I found an event that indicate me the state change. Therefore, the following code is almost just as damaging to the world of programming such as killing the last Unicorn or making a couple of miles in my car (the last is harmful for Ecology).

   1: using System;
   2: using System.Timers;
   3: using System.Windows;
   4: using System.Windows.Threading;
   5: using ElBruno.LightNotifier;
   6: using Microsoft.Lync.Controls;
   7:
   8: namespace ElBruno.LyncLightNotifier
   9: {
  10:     public partial class MainWindow
  11:     {
  12:         private readonly Timer _timer = new Timer(1000);
  13:         public MainWindow()
  14:         {
  15:             InitializeComponent();
  16:             Loaded += MainWindowLoaded;
  17:             Unloaded += MainWindowUnloaded;
  18:         }
  19:
  20:         void MainWindowUnloaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
  21:         {
  22:             _timer.Elapsed -= TimerElapsed;
  23:             _timer.Stop();
  24:         }
  25:
  26:         void MainWindowLoaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
  27:         {
  28:             _timer.Elapsed += TimerElapsed;
  29:             _timer.Enabled = true;
  30:         }
  31:
  32:         void TimerElapsed(object sender, ElapsedEventArgs e)
  33:         {
  34:             Dispatcher.Invoke(DispatcherPriority.Normal, (Action)(CheckLyncState));
  35:         }
  36:         void CheckLyncState()
  37:         {
  38:             var state = myPresence.AvailabilityState;
  39:             var lightController = new LightController();
  40:             lightController.TurnLight(state == ContactAvailability.DoNotDisturb);
  41:         }
  42:     }
  43: }

Well, the solution is quite simple: a timer every second verifying the LYNC 2013 State and if it is Do Not Disturb, as the notifier light turned on. Lines 32 to 41 will make you happy.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, the next value should be worth 2 or 3 monosyllables
