#Personal – Manything, turn your old phones 🤳 into Security Cameras 🎦

Hi !

Happy new year everyone. As usual, I´ll write this down so I can remember about this in the future.

Context

A couple of days ago, minutes before we were leaving our house for a family trip, I found the need to setup a security camera in a weird location of my house.

I didn´t have time to do a full setup, so it was time to find a quick solution.

Manything

My 2 first search results mentioned Manything, and I was impressed by the out-of-the-box and free features:

  • Live streaming
  • Motion alerts
  • Cloud recording
  • Remote control
  • Multiple recording modes
  • Clever motion detection

It literally took me 2 minutes to setup the app, and have a viewer of my 2 new cameras using 2 old Android phones. I didn’t need the full cloud storage, and the free plan was good enough for me. 6 days later, the cameras worked 100% of the time, and the experience was great.

Bonus: Works on iPhone and Android.

Live Demo

The following photo, shows an old phone running the app in my demo / dev environment. It was some very cool features, like motion alerts, and local storage of detected motion events.

Then from the main interface, I can easily access and check the live streaming of my camera.

Important: the free plan does not allows you to view recorded videos. You can only check them from the local camera phone.

As I said, a super simple and fast solution that literally helped me for a non-planned problem.

Happy coding!

Greetings
