#Windows11 – My experience after 24 using Windows 11 as main computer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Hi!

Yes, it’s been only a day since I started to use Windows 11 as main OS in my main PC, and I think I learned a couple of things, so here they are. Important, I didn’t start with a clean OS, I upgraded my super used and customized Windows 10 installation to Windows 11.

And before going on, I’ll share a TLDR:

  • I am working as usual.
  • I love the new animations and style.
  • The centered Start Menu and Taskbar UI is a huge plus.
  • My current set of apps also works as expected.
  • I have Office in Preview mode, so is also super adapted to Windows 11.
  • Visual Studio 2019, Visual Studio 2022 and Visual Studio Code works great for ML with Python and C# Console Apps.
  • I didn’t notice any performance issue.
  • General rate ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

New Centered Start Menu and Taskbar UI

I like this one. It makes a lot of sense to have the taskbar centered. And this is my taskbar. I use the 1set of tools with Windows+number to open them. In example

  • Windows+1 to open Windows Terminal
  • Windows+2 to open Total Commander
  • and so on.

I also don’t use the Start Menu, I just press the Windows key and type my desired app or document. This still works great, and again, I like the centered approach.

My dev tools are far on the right side, because for that ones I’m a mouse person. And that’s my only concern:

When I’m using the mouse, my muscle memory still goes far to the left for some apps. Easy solve, just use the OS.

New Settings Window

The new settings window is great. I mean, we have probably the same content and features as we have in Windows 10, however, there is something in the new navigation scheme that makes the experience much more smoother. Here are some screenshots, and bonus, I already have 1 update in Windows Update !

New rounded Windows and animations

I make a joke about this yesterday, most of the windows have a round corner. However, some propietary apps, still draw their windows using custom GDI. Big surprise here, Spotify works fine !

Final Thoughts

And that’s it, not so much to test and learn after 24 hours.

  • I can still working as usual.
  • I love the new animations and style.
  • My current set of apps also works as expected.

I’m 👍👍👍 today, however let’s wait until my 1st BSOD or similar.

Happy coding!

Greetings
